Summer Stuff is located at Willard Elementary, 2700 Hurd Ave, Evanston, IL.
A Typical Day
Summer Stuff is fortunate to have a dedicated staff of teachers who meet in advance to plan the curriculum. The curriculum is devised of 6 weekly themes which challenge the campers’ minds and muscles! What may appear to be “just play” actually is the result of careful planning and an understanding of the young child. During our day, we offer a balance of active and passive activities that encourage the campers to work individually as well as in a group.
Depending on enrollment, campers are divided into four groups: Two groups of K and two groups of 1st graders. The capacity for each group is 35 children. Each group is taught by one teacher and assisted by atleast 4 teacher’s aides. At capacity our ratio is 1:7.
Each day begins with “Big Group.” During Big Group, the children sing songs, solve a riddle, share news and recognize birthdays. After Big Group the campers break into their individual groups and begin their rotation of activities. These small group activities include Story Drama, Art, Snack, Soccer/Baseball, Activity Time and Water Play. The campers also participate in Science and Music and Movement once a week. Following small group activities the campers eat lunch. Every Thursday at camp we have a cook out. This is a longstanding tradition at Summer Stuff and great fun!
Family Activities
We offer parents the unique opportunity to join their child at camp for two family activities, our 4th of July Parade and Sing-a-Long. Camp can be the first group experience many children have outside of their home. Our family activities offer parents the privilege of experiencing this important part of their child’s life.
Communication
Our newsletter will be available online every Friday while camp is in session. This will provide you with weekly highlights as well as reminders about special events.
