One of the reasons Summer Stuff is such a special place is our staff! For over 35 years our staff has been committed to nurturing the growth and development of young children. They are adored by families for their continuous care and supportive interactions. Our staff is comprised of teachers, aides, interns, a special concerns coordinator (WE CARE) and professional educators.
Teachers
Summer Stuff Day Camps is fortunate to have a dedicated staff of teachers. Children need help navigating through new experiences and that is what we do best! Each teacher is certified in her concentration, seasoned, and professional. Teachers are responsible for the overall implementation of activities and the safety of every camper.
Aides
Every teacher is assisted by a group of aides. Aides are high school and college age students who were chosen based upon their leadership and work with young children. Aide responsibilities include: supporting campers with choices, helping set up and/or put away equipment, assisting the teachers with preparing and presenting an activity and being positive role models.
Interns
Each program at Summer Stuff has an intern program within. The intern program was started many years ago to provide an opportunity for young people to make a real-life contribution to others, to learn to be responsible for something meaningful outside the home and to experience the good feelings that come with volunteering. Some of the responsibilities an intern has include: making lemonade each day and serving the snack, helping “connect” children to an activity or friend and entering into conversation with children regarding their play.
We Care We Care was designed to provide families with the highest quality camp experience. Our We Care Coordinator assists parents with their concerns and questions, ensuring that our programs are conducive to the growth and learning needs of their child.
Professional Educators
Each summer, Summer Stuff teams up with two professional educators: Mad Science and Julie Helenius from the Old Town School of Folk Music.
Mad Science sparks imaginative learning with hands-on science classes. Each class is themed around a particular area of science and includes such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like Mad Science putty and more. Mad Science offers children a chance to see just how cool science can be!
Julie Helenius is a musical performer and instructor who has been sharing her love of music with children for over 14 years. At Grasshoppers and Summer Stuff, Julie will be “jammin” with drums, shakers, parachutes, puppets, bubbles and much more! At Summer Stuff PLUS, Julie will teach a hands-on class about music from places like South America, Africa and Asia!
